Matariki Week

Last week on Thursday we had Kaumatua and Kuia day, Tuna weigh in, Takakau, Matariki performance at Bay of island college and a kapa haka performance for our Kaumatua and Kuia. It was a very busy week for everyone because There was Tuna and Takakau, Kaumatua and Kuia day and other things that couldn't even remember it was a very long week for everyone. Nga Rau Puawai and Nga Rau Rangatira (my class) did hangi preparation we had to peal 4 big bags of potatoes and Kumara we did six pumpkins, 10 cabbage, 4 bags of carrots and 2 bags of Onions that was a mission. After school teachers stayed back at school to pack away the hangi. Then come the next day it was finally Kaumatua and Kuia day the whole school put on a performance for them then we had made our way back across the road and went for a kai of hangi. What I like about last week getting the opportunity to help prep for the hangi and putting on a performance for them. My least favourite part was cutting my hand when I was washing the knifes and Potatoes peelers.

Matariki Invitation

Today we had made invitation's for our Kaumatua and Kuia . The invatations are for Matariki day held at Kawakawa Primary School on the 27 of June 2019. What we were trying to do was to make the font the right colour so our Kaumatua and Kuia can read it. Make it attractive so they will want to come and so they wouldn't want to miss out on all the fun.

Waitangi trip

Did you know that this year marks the 250 year since the Europeans came to New Zealand? For the past two days we have been spending our days at Waitangi treaty ground learning about the past when the Europeans came to NZ. 

My favourite part was when we got to tutu around with the devices Eg Robot dogs,Stop motion, VR, Ipad's and Chromebooks. My less favourite part was to not see everything that first group seen  when they when on there hikoi.

Cultural festival

Two week's ago our school held a Southern Bay of island Cultural festival day. We had 3 schools and 2 Kohanga such as Pahia, Maromaku, Waikare, Kawakawa Kohanga, Te Mirumiru and Moerewa Kohanga. Every school had to perform and item it could be Kapa haka and Waka huia. I enjoyed performing in hola and Kapa haka because hola was a very different item I've done in my life. Then there is Kapa haka I wasn't really nervous to perform in front of other schools because in kapa haka my whole life. The easy part: Was to perform in front of every school. The hard part: Was trying to get everyone ready for there performance.

Reading skills

This week and last week we have been reading a book called catching a space duck. The skills that I have been doing is reading the book and then summing what happened in it. Sometimes I read the book and then I re-read  the book so I can understand whats going on.

Fraction art

This week I have been learning to do fraction. But to day we did our maths differently instead of writing it in our maths books we instead we had made art. The fractions I made it up to was  1 whole, 1/2,  1/4,  1/ 8,  1/16,  1/32, 1/64,  1/128,  1/256,  1/512,  1/1024, 1/ 2048,  1/4096.  The easy part was  cutting and gluing the paper onto the whole.  The easy part was  cutting and gluing the paper onto the whole. The thing I will change about my art is the shape.

Postcards

The past week we have been writing postcards for other schools in new Zealand we had to use a site called anagram maker it is a very productive site. We also had to get a item from the class and see, feel and smell the object, my object was a Dinosaur and I had to write the first thing that pops into my head then I write it in my book.
